The orb is my canvas—kinetic paintings in light. The chiseled surface reflects and refracts ambient light, continuously interacting with the interior planes of the work as well as the environment. The work is tactile, and people cannot resist touching it. Ranging in size from two to seven feet in diameter, and unique in surface, pattern, and color, no two are alike.

The immense boulder seemingly, impossibly, floats, supported by the glass walls.
Cresting is an exploration of strength of materials, of the natural versus the manmade.

The spheroid is a variation on the mathematics of the orb. It is an exploration of balance and light versus mass. As with the orbs, the pattern of chiseling, the layer thickness, and the coloration varies with each, rendering each one unique.

The climate series is based on the ice forms in Iceland. I traveled to the glaciers and ice beaches to observe how the light goes through the glaciers, how the ocean carves the forms of ice, and how the light from the winter sun reflects through the materials. This series of sculptures are reminders of the long-term systemic problems humans face as we change the chemistry of our planet.
The ice forms are truly abstract forms, and arrive at the confluence of my educational background as a geologist and my maturing as an artist to explore long term issues confronting humanity. In several decades the ice forms of Iceland as in other parts of the world will disappear due to the changes in our climate. It is my intention to assert that this change will occur, and how we respond over the decades will have a profound effect on humans and other lifeforms on our planet.

Experimental piece demonstrating the evolution of the ice sculpture form.
At once tightly twisted yet delicate as ribbons, towers are a study in contrasts: fragility and strength.
Twisting towers are futuristic pieces, seemingly dancing, at once opposing and harmonizing with natural settings.
Square towers are ever-changing, the colors depending on the perspective of the viewer and the ambient light.

The compression columns are site specific architectural works that explore the strength of materials, the old versus the new. The compressive strength of glass is greater than that of concrete. The columns are held in place between the jack—be it a vintage railroad jack, an auto jack, or anything that exerts force—and the concrete in the ceiling above.
